About Us

Gill started playing badminton in Portsmouth over 30 years ago, and has played off and on ever since. She joined Southsea Badminton Club in 2021, and became a member of the committee, as Treasurer, in 2022. Gill has recently retired after 40 years working as a nurse in the NHS.

Co-founder of Southsea Badminton Club, Tom has spent more than a decade coordinating sessions, running league teams, and organizing tournaments throughout the Portsmouth area. Tom is a Level 1 qualified coach and former county player.

Kacper recently picked up badminton as a hobby and joined Southsea Badminton Club through attending the Improver sessions in 2022. Kacper’s profession is project and commercial management in the IT services sector.

Hayley has played badminton socially and competitively for more than 10 years and sat on the committee at her previous club, where she served as ladies’ team captain. She’s a marketing and communications manager in her day job and started her career in sports marketing.

Amy has been playing badminton since the age of eight and was selected to represent Hampshire as part of the Junior Squad during her school years. Alongside her committee position, Amy Captains the Mixed 2 team. Off the court, Amy is a full-time Environmental Science student.

Xanthe joined Southsea Badminton Club in 2021. She began playing badminton whilst at school in Portsmouth, later competing at university where she represented York at varsity. Off the court Xanthe is an Assistant Psychologist working towards her full qualification in Clinical Psychology.

Alex joined Southsea Badminton Club during an internship, then re-joined after graduation when he moved back to the area. Alex has seen his game develop during his time at the club and now strives to ensure others have the same opportunity.

Fraser joined Southsea Badminton Club in 2022, not long after moving to the Southsea area from Scotland. He has been Open 3 Captain for 2 years. Off the court, Fraser works locally as a design engineer in the construction industry.

Having run Junior Women's football clubs for many years, Darren brings years of experience of managing sports clubs  to Southsea Badminton Club. Having been Open 2 captain for 2 years, Darren now seeks to support the Club more broadly as a League Officer.

Owen founded a community badminton club based at Portsmouth College in 2009, and in the following eight years during his tenure as club secretary, it grew to be the among the most successful clubs in Hampshire. A long-time player, he is also a Level 2 badminton coach and committee member for PHBA.
